For a people of hope...

Today marks the first Sunday of Advent in 2025. Advent is the season of the Christian calendar that is about remembering the wait for the Messiah. Today, at church I loved the words around this first Sunday, the Sunday set apart for HOPE.

“We are a people of hope.”

I feel it, so deeply right now - the need for hope. Hope that people will show up with kindness. (Hope that I’ll show up in kindness!) Hope that people will be treated with dignity. Hope for resources that meet needs for all people. Hope for the ending of violence. Sometimes I find myself doubting that my hope is big enough for the longings of my heart. But still, I try. I try to hope.

This year, as I navigated a whole life of home schooling, soccer coaching and board membering that took so much of my time, I found myself hoping that I’d do at least a little something creative. I had at one point thought to set the 8000 Promises Podcast to the side, but then I’d have someone reach out to be a guest. Slowly, over the year I interviewed 10 different guests to be able to produce a short season of eight episodes.

All of the episodes are about doing small right things. This analogy from the sports world is one that carries a heap of hope. For when the goal looms large in the distance, it is the small, next right thing that can make all the difference in the moment you are in and carry you to the finish.
